IPL 2024 likely to start on 22nd March, final on 26th May - Reports

The schedule for IPL 2024 is yet to be announced.

The upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) will be held simultaneously with the 18th Indian general elections for the Lok Sabha in March, April and May. The 17th season of the Indian Premier League is likely to begin on 22nd March. Reportedly, the final will be held on 26th May. The tournament will be 66 days long with 10 teams participating in it.

According to reports from Cricket Next, the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League will held entirely in India despite the Indian general elections 2024. In 2019, the IPL and general elections held simultaneously. In 2009 and 2014, the IPL had to shift base due to the Lok Sabha elections in the same years. IPL 2009 was held in South Africa while the first half of the IPL 2014 was held in UAE.

As reported by Cricket Next, a senior BCCI official informed that they are waiting for a final words from Home Ministry and Election Commission before finalising the schedule. the BCCI official in anonymity said, “We had discussions around the IPL schedule and we have no option but to wait for a word from the Home Ministry and Election Commission of India on the polling schedule for General Elections, which is likely to be around the IPL’s time.”

Sources also revealed that there is no question about moving IPL out of India due to general elections. They are waiting for the final schedule of elections. As quoted by Cricket Next, the source further added, “There is no question or even thought of moving it out of India. We need to wait for the polling schedule and based on that we will have discussions with regards to security and other arrangements and then take it forward from there on.”

TATA Group recently grabbed the IPL title sponsorship rights using the right-to-match card. The BCCI is ready with the schedule of the Women’s Premier League and they are likely to announce it in the next few days. WPL is likely to be held between 22nd February to March 17 with Delhi and Bengaluru most likely being two venues for the entire tournament. WPL season one was held entirely in Mumbai.
