IPL 2024: Delhi Capitals co-owner provides update on Anrich Nortje's injury
Anrich Nortje has been out of action since September 2023 due to back injury.
It’s a feeling of relief in the Delhi Capitals (DC) camp as star South African pacer Anrich Nortje is set to make a comeback in the IPL 2024. DC co-owner Parth Jindal disclosed the news after the schedule for first phase of IPL 2024 was announced.
The 30-year-old South African fast bowler has been out of action since September 2023 after suffering a back injury. The injury made Anrich Nortje miss the coveted ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India.
Following his injury in September 2023, Nortje missed the ODI series at home against Australia, home series against India and also the second edition of SA20. The lethal pacer from South Africa played in IPL 2023 for the Delhi Capitals side after recovering from a groin injury. His enormous contribution to the side was limited to ten matches as he had to leave the side to get back home for personal reasons.
Ahead of the IPL 2024, DC co-owner Parth Jindal confirming the good news on Anrich Nortje’s fitness and said the fast bowler will make a comeback in the IPL 2024.
“He’s fit. Right now, he is bowling at 80% intensity. Next week, he will bowl at 100%. He’s going to make his comeback in the IPL. He is going to join our camp and should be good to go for our first game.” Jindal told EspnCricinfo.
Anrich Nortje’s performance for DC over the years
Anrich Nortje has been a long-time asset for DC, leading the pace-bowling attack for the IPL side since 2020. To date, he has played 40 matches for DC, scalping 53 wickets at an economy rate of 8.32 runs & an average of 24.15.
Nortje’s best performance for DC came in 2020 when he bagged 22 wickets in 16 games. In 2023, he played ten games and scalped ten wickets at an economy of 9.10.
Anrich Nortje’s return a big boost for Delhi Capitals
Anrich Nortje’s comeback shall be a big boost for the Delhi Capitals, who struggled last season, finishing ninth in the points table with just 10 points. Nortje along with Lungi Ngidi, Mukesh Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed, Mitchell Marsh & Ishant Sharma will be a force that other franchises will fear.
Although DC might miss services of Australian fast bowler Jhye Richardson for half of the IPL 2024.
