IPL 2024: Kolkata Knight Riders rope in Dushmanth Chameera as Gus Atkinson's replacement

KKR have roped in Sri Lanka’s Dushmantha Chameera as replacement of Gus Atkinson for IPL 2024.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have suffered a huge setback ahead of the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024). England fast bowler Gus Atknison, who was acquired by Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2024 auction for INR 1 crore, has been ruled out of the entire IPL 2024. KKR have now roped in Sri Lankan pacer Dhushmanth Chameera as Atkinson’s replacement. Chameera played for Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2022. Chameera missed the IPL 2023 due to an injury.
Gus Atkinson has so far played 9 ODIs and 3 T20I matches for England. Gus Atkinson also skipped several tournaments after the T20I series against West Indies. Sri Lanka right-arm pacer Dhushmanth Chameera will be playing in the IPL for his second stint.
Dushmanth Chameera drafted in KKR
The Indian Premier League released a official statement on the latest development and revealed that KKR will be paying 50 Lakh INR to Dushmanth Chameera. IPL official statement reads, “Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have named Dushmantha Chameera as a replacement for England pacer Gus Atkinson for the upcoming edition of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.”
The IPL further official statement further read “Dushmanth Chameera will join KKR at a reserve price of INR 50 Lakh. The Sri Lankan speedster, who is known for his pace, and can trouble the batters with his swing and seam movements, was a part of Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2018 and 2021 IPL seasons, respectively.”
Dushmanth Chameera made his IPL debut for with Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2022 and played 12 games. Chameera picked up nine wickets in that season. He has so far played 55 T20I matches for Sri Lanka and picked up 55 wickets. Chameera recently had a terrific campaign for Dubai Capitals in the International League T20 (ILT20 2024). KKR finished at seventh position in the IPL 2024.
