IPL 2024: List of players release, retained by PBKS ahead of auction, remaining purse details

Punjab Kings have released only 5 players ahead of the IPL 2024 auction.

Punjab Kings have been one of the unluckiest teams in Indian Premier League and they are still waiting for their maiden IPL title just like Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals. Punjab have played in just one final out of their 16 seasons and they were unlucky against Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2014. Shikhar Dhawan was picked as captain in the last season and once again the franchise looks to have a big trust in Indian opening batter. Punjab will be looking to end their title wait in the upcoming season. 

Punjab Kings finished IPL 2023 season in 8th place in the table. Punjab won 6 games and lost 8 out of their 14 league encounters in the tournament. Just like Rajasthan Royals, Punjab also had a terrific beginning of the season with 2 dominating wins against Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals. Punjab then suffered a crushing defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad. After a defeat against Hyderabad, Punjab could only manage to win 4 out of their next 12 league games. 

Punjab Kings have a great mix of balance but somehow they failed to qualify for the knockout round. Under Shikhar Dhawan’s leadership, Punjab will be looking to strengthen their middle-order batting in the upcoming IPL mini-auction 2024. Punjab will also be having a great look at a few spin bowling options. Rahul Chahar is the only front-line spinner they have got in the camp. IPL mini-auction will happen on 19th December in Dubai.
