'If a guy from Kerala.....', Sanju Samson's blunt response on Indian team selection
Sanju Samson has played only 16 ODIs and 25 T20Is for India since his debut in 2015.
Wicket-keeper Sanju Samson made his international debut for India in 2015 against Zimbabwe. Samson hasn’t managed to get a consistent run in the Indian cricket team and has often found himself as a backup in the squad. The Kerala man has played only 16 ODIs and 25 T20I games for India in his career to-date.
Sanju Samson is one of the leading wicket-keeper batters in the limited overs formats in the Indian setup. Samson has made a huge statement about his chances of getting back into the national setup. The Rajasthan Royals skipper said that being a Keralite he needs to put in some extraordinary efforts to get noticed. Sanju Samson was part of India’s World Cup 2023 plans, but missed out on selection due to KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer’s comeback.
Sanju Samson on India chances
Talking about the growing talent pool in Indian cricket, during a chat show on Star Sports, Sanju Samson said, “When you are playing cricket in the world’s best country… India is No. 1 in the world… the number of players, the number of talent and the competitions we have… a guy from Kerala, if he has to come and cement his place in the national side, he has to do something special.”
Samson also added that he always wanted to standout from the others in batting and has made adjustments whenever needed. He stated, “I always wanted to standout with the way I bat… create my own style. No matter if it’s the first ball, I wanted to go out there and hit a six. That was the shift in the mindset. I wanted to do something different. Why do we have to wait for 10 balls to hit a six?”
Sanju Samson led Rajasthan Royals to the IPL 2022 final and the team have shown great improvement under his leadership. The keeper will lead the Royals once again in the upcoming season of the IPL. Rajasthan Royals will play their opening game against Lucknow Super Giants at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Sunday 24th March. IPL 2024 is set to begin on 22nd March.
