IPL 2024 will kick-off on 22nd March, 2024.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season is just a few days away, but the cash-rich league has been hit by several pullouts of players, and Harry Brook has become the latest cricketer to withdraw his name for the upcoming 17th edition, which is going to start on March 22.

On Wednesday, 13th March, 2024, England batter Harry Brook, who pulled out of the recently concluded India test tour citing personal reasons, confirmed death of his grandmother being the reason for pulling out of the IPL 2024 as well.

So far, after being retained or bought at the auction, four England players will miss the upcoming IPL 2024. Namely, LSG’s Mark Wood, KKR’s Jason Roy, Gus Atkinson and DC’s Harry Brook will not be seen in this edition of the tournament.

Earlier also many overseas players have pulled out their names from taking part in the prestigious tournament, which seems to have upset the IPL franchise owners.

According to a latest report in Cricbuzz, IPL franchises were not happy with the development, and they want the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to address this issue.

“Once players register for the auction, they should honour their commitment. Reneging on it is unprofessional, and the BCCI should address this,” voiced a franchise official.

Harry Brook reveals why he pulled out his name from the IPL 2024 season

England star batter Harry Brook revealed on Wednesday why he has pulled his name from the upcoming IPL 2024. Brook said that he wants to spend his time with his family after the death of his grandmother, who passed away in February.

“I can confirm that I have made the very difficult decision not to play in the upcoming IPL,” Brook said in a statement.

“I lost my grandmother last month – she was a rock to me and I spent a huge amount of my childhood in her home; my attitude to life and love for cricket was shaped by her and my late grandfather,” the 25-year-old said.

Brook made his IPL debut in 2023, where he smashed a blistering 55-ball hundred against the Kolkata Knight Riders, only to end his poor 2023 season on a good note. The right-handed batter managed only 190 runs for his former franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in 11 games after he was acquired for Rs 13.25 crore in the IPL 2023 auction.

After his poor performance, SRH released him for the 2024 edition, and then Delhi Capitals purchased him for Rs 4 crore to acquire his services.
