IPL 2024: Bengaluru water shortage not to impact RCB's home matches
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will play three home games in the first phase of IPL 2024.
Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has confirmed that the city’s water shortage will not disrupt Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) home matches in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024).
This news comes amidst growing concerns about water crisis. Bengaluru is reeling under a severe water crisis, and there have been discussion around to shift the IPL games, beginning in Bengaluru on March 25, out of the city due to water crisis.
However, the KSCA has moved swiftly to address all the issues regarding RCB‘s home matches. “We are facing no crisis at the moment that is. We have received the state government pertaining to water usage and we (the KSCA office-bearers) are in constant meetings about following the guidelines,” Shubendu Ghosh, the CEO of Karnataka State Cricket Association, told PTI.
Shubendu Ghosh added that they are already using the water from the sewage treatment plant (STP) inside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium for purposes like watering the outfield and pitch.
“We are already using water from the STP plant for watering outfield and pitch and other in-stadium purposes. We may require 10000-15000 litres of water for match purposes, and we are certain that it can be generated from the STP plant,”said Shubendu Ghosh.
The KSCA CEO also stated that they don’t need any groundwater for watering purposes, and they are taking a closer look at the government’s new policy on water usage.
“We don’t need to use groundwater (for any watering purpose). Yes, we are having a closer look at the government’s new policy on water usage, but we are confident of meeting all the points in the order,” said Ghosh.
In the first phase of the IPL 2024, Royal Challengers Bangalore will play three home games. Royal Challengers Bangalore will face Punjab Kings on 25th March in Bengaluru.
The Bangalore-based franchise’s next home game is against Kolkata Knight Riders on 29th March. In their third match at home, Royal Challengers Bangalore will be up against Lucknow Super Giants on 2nd April.
