IPL 2025: Two-hour extra time added to remaining games to battle rain issues

Three matches in IPL 2025 have been washed out due to rain.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has added extra time to the remaining games of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 to battle rain interruptions. The BCCI has added two hours of extra time to each game of remainder of the IPL 2025 with a vision to complete all 20 overs in a match.
Notably, the two-hour extra time rule has been part of only playoffs in the past. However, the BCCI has now added the rule for the remaining games this season so that the matches can be as fair as possible. A total of 12 matches are left to be played in IPL 2025.
Out of these, only one game between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings will be played in the afternoon on May 25. The rest games will be played at night. The afternoon games start at 3:30 PM, while evening games commence at 7:30 PM.
After the addition of two hours of extra time, an afternoon game can start as late as 5:30 PM and will still witness all 20 overs. Similarly, the evening game can start as late as 9:30 PM without any overs getting reduced. Normally, league stage matches have only one hour of extra time.
RCB vs KKR match was completely washed out due to rain on May 17
On May 17, the match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) was completely washed out due to rain. Also, it was a must-win game for KKR, however, it was washed out without the toss and a single ball being bowled.
As a result, the Knight Riders were eliminated from the playoffs race without even playing the match. The BCCI has also changed the venue of RCB’s forthcoming game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) from Bengaluru to Lucknow due to unfavourable weather conditions in Bengaluru.
Meanwhile, three games have been washed out due to rain and ended without a result in the ongoing IPL 2025 so far. Ahead of the suspension, a clash between KKR and Punjab Kings (PBKS) was washed out due to rain. Another game between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Delhi Capitals (DC) ended with no result due to rain.
Notably, the early arrival of monsoon in India has affected games in IPL 2025. Also, BCCI had to suspend the tournament for a week on May 9. According to the new schedule, the tournament will now end on June 3 instead of May 25.
