IPL 2025: Three venues shortlisted in case of resumption in May

IPL 2025 witnessed 57 games before its suspension.
The future of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is uncertain as the tournament has been suspended by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for a week. The BCCI, however, would like to restart it in the month of May itself, but everything will depend on the circumstances.
IPL 2025 has been suspended due to the safety of players amid the ongoing military tensions between India and Pakistan in the aftermath of Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. The league has witnessed 57 games so far. The 58th match of the season between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) was abandoned midway through the game in Dharamsala on Thursday (May 8).
Three venues shortlisted for remaining games if IPL 2025 resumes in May
According to a report in ESPNcricinfo, three venues have been shortlisted by the BCCI to conduct the remaining games of IPL 2025 if it resumes in May. Three southern cities of India – Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai have been picked as the venues for the remaining 16 games of the tournament.
Hence, the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad, M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, and MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai might witness the climax of the IPL 2025 in case of resumption in May. A total of 13 games, including the PBKS vs DC clash, are left in the league stage. Three games will take place in the playoffs before the eventual final clash.
The PBKS vs DC clash was abandoned midway and no points were awarded to each team. Hence, there is a high possibility that the match will be played once again. However, the BCCI is yet to provide any official update about the rematch.
Notably, Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad was scheduled to host Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator games of the tournament in the original schedule. The Qualifier 2 and final were scheduled to be hosted at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Meanwhile, the BCCI will also face the challenge of the availability of overseas players if the tournament resumes in May. According to reports, many overseas players are set to travel back to their home countries by Saturday.
