Abhishek Nayar was part of KKR before taking up role with senior men’s Indian cricket team.
Former Team India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar has joined Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Notably, Nayar was removed by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as India’s assistant coach two days ago.
BCCI terminated three support staff members from their roles. Fielding coach T Dilip and Strength & Conditioning Coach Soham Desai were the other two members. Out of them, Dilip and Soham had completed three years with the Indian Team. BCCI took the decision after India’s poor show in Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 against Australia earlier this year. They lost the series 1-3.
Abhishek Nayar comes back to KKR in IPL 2025
Notably, Nayar has joined KKR and will undertake a similar duty as assistant coach for the side in IPL 2025. He was part of KKR for quite a few years before taking up as India’s assistant coach last year. He joined Indian side as support staff in July last year.
The franchise confirmed the news on X (formerly Twitter) with a welcome post for Nayar.
KKR’s support staff consists of head coach Chandrakant Pandit, bowling coach Bharat Arun, spin-bowling coach Carl Crowe and mentor Dwayne Bravo. Ajinkya Rahane currently leads the side.
Meanwhile, the Ajinkya Rahane-led side have played seven games in the tournament. They have won three games and lost four out of seven. The defending champions have six points in their kitty. They are currently placed sixth in the points table.
They lost to Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 16 runs in their previous encounter. Earlier, they clinched a huge victory against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by eight wickets. They will next face Gujarat Titans (GT) in the 39th match of the tournament. The match will be played at the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata on Monday.
