IPL 2025 auction: 3 players Delhi Capitals (DC) might target through RTM card
DC chose to retain four players ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.
Delhi Capitals (DC) made quite a noise after they released the list of players retained before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction. The biggest shock was that they released their captain Rishabh Pant, who has been with them since IPL 2016.
The Capitals retained four players ahead of the mega auction: Axar Patel (INR 16.50 crores), Kuldeep Yadav (INR 13.25 crores), Tristan Stubbs (INR 10 crores), Abishek Porel (INR 4 crores).
They will go into the IPL 2025 mega auction with INR 73 crores in their purse and two Right-To-Match (RTM) cards. They can use these two RTMs on one uncapped player and one capped player, or two capped players, but not on two uncapped players.
In this article, we will see three potential options Delhi might use their RTM cards on.
Therefore we take a look at the 3 players who DC can target with RTM cards:
1. Jake Fraser-McGurk
Jake Fraser-McGurk proved to be a huge pick for DC last season. The young opener had made quite a name for himself in the Big Bash League and showed that the hype was worth it.
Fraser-McGurk was given the chance to open the innings for the Capitals and he went after the leather from the first ball. In the nine matches Jake Fraser-McGurk played in IPL 2024, he scored 330 runs with four fifties and a best score of 84. It was his strike rate of 234.84 that was jaw-dropping. He hit 28 sixes in only nine outings.
Fraser-McGurk will be a good use of the RTM card for Delhi. At the top, he is one of the best openers to take advantage of the powerplay.
2. David Warner
David Warner might be 38 years old, but with him retiring from international cricket this year, he will have less workload on his shoulders. He has captained Delhi in the past and the franchise can use their RTM card to get Warner for a not-so-high price. Warner remains one of the fittest cricketers in the world today and could still have one or two big IPL seasons in him left.
Coming to Warner’s record in IPL, he has played 184 matches, scoring 6565 runs with four centuries and 62 fifties to his name. For Delhi in the last three seasons, Warner accumulated 432, 516 and 168 runs respectively, scoring 12 half-centuries.
3. Mitchell Marsh
Mitchell Marsh was a big buy for Delhi Capitals at the IPL 2022 auction. He had middling returns for Delhi: 440 runs in 21 innings and 17 wickets. Apart from this, Marsh’s involvement in the IPL 2023 and 2024 was limited due to national team commitments and injuries.
He has 666 runs and 47 wickets in 42 matches in his IPL career. But recently, Marsh has shown great hitting form for Australia and has cemented his place in all three formats. He is also Australia’s T20I captain, which is a testament to his maturity in recent years and the fact that he is a gun all-rounder, an asset to any team.
Batting at No.3, Marsh has taken apart bowling attacks on all types of pitches. Delhi Capitals might want to use an RTM card to retain Marsh’s services.
