IPL 2025 mega auction: 3 teams who might target Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan got released by Mumbai Indians before the IPL 2025 mega auction.
Representing Mumbai Indians (MI) since 2018, Ishan Kishan was released by the franchise ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction.
Kishan was a crucial part of Mumbai’s core, playing key roles in their title-winning campaigns in 2019 and 2020.
Despite a challenging last season, during which he scored 320 runs in the tournament with a batting average of 22, Kishan brings a wealth of experience and versatility to the table. Across his IPL career, Kishan has amassed 2644 runs at an impressive strike rate of 136.
Kishan has so far played for two IPL franchises: Gujarat Lions (GL) and Mumbai Indians (MI). Kishan’s versatility in the batting order combined with his wicket-keeping skills can trigger a bidding war at the upcoming auction.
On that note let’s look at the three teams who might target the young Indian wicket-keeper in the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah.
Three teams who might target Ishan Kishan at the IPL 2025 mega auction
1. Delhi Capitals (DC)
Struggling with inconsistent opening stands last year, Delhi Capital can look to bring Ishan Kishan to resolve their woes. DC have only retained two batters before the auction – Abhishek Porel and Tristian Stubb. Kishan’s versatility to bat in multiple positions in the batting order will add strength to their lineup.
DC’s home ground Arun Jaitley Stadium will further aid Kishan’s stroke-making enabling him to take advantage of the short boundaries.
2. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)
Following Faf Du Plessis’ exit, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are in search of a reliable opener to partner up Virat Kohli at the top. Kishan’s natural attacking style from the start would pair well with Kohli’s measured approach.
With Chinnaswamy’s batting-friendly wicket and shorter boundaries, Kishan’s power-hitting would be well-suited to the franchise.
3. Chennai Super Kings (CSK)
Five-time IPL winners Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will enter the auction in the hunt for a reliable opener. Earlier, CSK had released the Kiwi opening batting duo of Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra and are yet to find a partner for captain Ruturaj Gaikwad.
If bought, Kishan will not only resolve CSK’s opening problem, but also serve as a long-term replacement for legendary wicket-keeper MS Dhoni. Kishan’s ability to dominate the spinners will further enhance his suitability for the franchise.
