IPL 2025 mega auction: 3 teams who might target Mohammed Siraj
Mohammed Siraj was released by Royal Challengers Bengaluru before the IPL 2025 mega auction.
Each of the 10 Indian Premier League (IPL) teams have submitted their retention list before the upcoming IPL mega auction 2025. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) permitted each team to retain up to six players ahead of the upcoming season.
Star Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj, released by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), is among the many big names entering the IPL 2025 mega auction. Representing the Bengaluru franchise since 2018, Siraj was one of the pillars behind RCB’s comeback in the tournament in the second half of the IPL 2024 season. Siraj finished the IPL 2024 season with 15 wickets at an economy of 9.1.
Bringing international experience to the table, Siraj is expected to trigger a bidding war in the upcoming mega auction. In this article, we will look at three teams that might target Mohammed Siraj in the auction. It is to be noted that RCB can use an RTM card on Siraj in the auction.
Three teams who might target Mohammed Siraj in the IPL 2025 mega auction:
1. Mumbai Indians (MI)
Five-time IPL winners Mumbai Indians are known for their focus on fast bowlers. Home to many legendary pace bowlers including Lasith Malinga, Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult and Mitchell Johnson, the Mumbai franchise have believed in thumping the opposition with pace.
Wankhede Stadium, MI’s home ground, provides a bit of swing early on in evening games, and Siraj’s ability to generate movement in the air makes him an attractive option for Mumbai. With Bumrah already in the side, MI can field the Indian international pace duo next season.
2. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)
Like Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, Kolkata Knight Riders’ home ground, Eden Gardens, also assists fast bowlers with the new ball. Siraj’s ability to hit the right lengths in the powerplay could prove valuable for KKR.
KKR have retained Harshit Rana as the only fast bowler before the mega auction and would be looking to get a few more Indian options in their squad for the next season.
3. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)
IPL 2024 runners-up Sunrisers Hyderabad could be another potential destination for Siraj. Siraj started his IPL career in 2017 at SRH. Having released Bhuvneshwar Kumar before the mega auction, SRH need a few experienced Indian pace bowlers.
The Rajiv Gandhi Stadium witnessed several high-scoring games last season. Siraj, with his international experience, could be a vital addition to the Hyderabad franchise.
