IPL 2025 mega auction: 3 teams who might target Mustafizur Rahman
Mustafizur Rahman was released by CSK before the IPL 2025 mega auction.
Regarded as one of the best death bowlers in the world, Mustafizur Rahman was released by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction.
Rahman was one of the most successful bowlers for CSK last season, picking up 14 wickets in nine games with an economy rate of 9.2 runs per over, which isn’t bad considering the high-scoring season it was.
Making his IPL debut in 2016, the star Bangladeshi fast bowler has represented five different franchises in the tournament: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Mumbai Indians (MI), Delhi Capitals (DC), Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Rahman’s most impressive performance came during the IPL 2016, where he played a vital role in SRH’s title-winning campaign. Partnering with Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mustafizur ended the season with 17 wickets to his name with an economy of 8.6 runs per over.
Given his experience and variations, Mustafizur is a valuable asset in the T20 format. On that note, let’s look at the three teams who might target him in the upcoming mega auction.
Three teams that might target Mustafizur Rahman in the IPL 2025 mega auction:
1. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)
Lucknow Super Giants’ home ground Ekana Stadium has a pitch that is slow and sluggish, where the ball grips and turns. Mustafizur’s variations, especially his cutters, will be a handful to handle at this venue.
Further, if bought by LSG, Rahman will complement the raw pace of Mayank Yadav and Mohsin Khan very well.
Given Mustafizur’s expertise in the death overs, his potential move to Lucknow will add much-needed experience to the franchise’s young fast-bowling cartel.
2. Rajasthan Royals (RR)
The large boundaries and two-paced nature of Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium can make Mustafizur Rahman a lucrative option for RR. If bought, Mustafizur will complement Sandeep Sharma, who has been the franchise’s key weapon with the new ball.
Rahman’s slower ball variations and back-of-the-length deliveries make him an ideal pacer for Jaipur’s conditions. Mustafizur will add the left-arm variation is RR’s bowling arsenal.
3. Chennai Super Kings (CSK)
Mustafizur Rahman can prove to be a valuable addition to CSK yet again. Rahman was one of Chennai’s standout bowlers in an otherwise underwhelming IPL 2024 season. Rahman’s slower ball variations and back-of-the-length deliveries would be well-suited for the big boundary sizes at Chepauk.
If he returns to CSK, he will form a deadly death-overs duo with Sri Lankan fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana. Together, the Asian bowling duo can offer CSK excellent reliability in the death overs.
