BCCI secretary said they cannot be a silent spectator after the deadly incident.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise organised a celebration in Bengaluru following their team’s victory in the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The Rajat Patidar-led side defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) on June 3 to lift the title for the first time.

Hence, the RCB franchise celebrated the victory in Bengaluru the following day on June 4. The RCB players were felicitated inside their home ground- M Chinnaswamy Stadium. However, the event turned deadly as a stampede occurred near the gates of the stadium due to a massive crowd.

As a result, 11 people died and over 47 were injured, as per the reports, during the Chinnaswamy stampede. Bengaluru police have registered a case against RCB, Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), and DNA Entertainment in the matter and also made three arrests.

We will try to ensure such incidents do not recur in future – BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia

During a conversation with Cricbuzz, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Devajit Saikia said that they will take necessary steps to ensure such incidents do not occur in the future.

“At some stage BCCI will have to do something. We cannot be silent spectator. It was a private affair of RCB but we at the BCCI are responsible for cricket in India and we will try to ensure such incidents do not recur in future,” Saikia said.

Notably, one employee of RCB and two employees of DNA Entertainment have been arrested by the police. The Karnataka State Government and the RCB franchise have announced financial assistance to the families of the victims.

Both of them have offered Rs. 10 lakh compensation to the victims of the families. RCB also paid condolences to the families of the victims on X (formerly Twitter) after the incident.
