Sridharan Sriram represented India in eight ODIs.
On Monday, February 24, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) appointed former spinner Sridharan Sriram as assistant bowling coach ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
The decision comes after an underwhelming IPL 2024 season, where the franchise missed out on the playoffs and finished fifth in the points table with 14 points from 14 games.
Chennai are set to begin their IPL 2025 campaign against Mumbai Indians on March 23 and will play four of their first six games at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, which is known for being spin-friendly.
Sridharan Sriram joins CSK as assistant bowling coach
On Monday, CSK confirmed Sridharan Sriram’s appointment through a social media post on X (formerly Twitter).
“Say Yellove to our assistant bowling Coach Sriram Sridharan! Brought up from the tracks of Chepauk to a packed portfolio of coaching tenures in Australia and Bangladesh, he embarks on this new journey with the pride!” posted CSK on X (formerly Twitter).
Sriram brings a wealth of coaching experience to Chennai and has effectively replaced Dwayne Bravo, who joined defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as a mentor.
Sriram earlier served as Australia’s assistant coach from 2016 to 2022 before joining Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) as a spin bowling coach in 2022. His next IPL assignment came in 2024 when he joined Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as an assistant coach.
The CSK management will hope that Sriram brings out the best in the franchise’s quality spin department, which includes big names like Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Noor Ahmad, and Shreyas Gopal.
He will join the CSK support staff consisting – Stephen Fleming (head coach), Mike Hussey (batting coach), and Eric Simons (bowling consultant).
IPL 2025 will begin on March 22 with defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) facing RCB in Kolkata. The playoffs round will start on May 20, with Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator scheduled in Hyderabad, while Qualifier 2 and the Final will be held in Kolkata.
