Matthew Mott previously was head coach of England’s white-ball side.

On Tuesday, February 25, Delhi Capitals (DC) announced Matthew Mott as their assistant coach for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season.

His appointment comes after the franchise’s poor performance in IPL 2024, where they finished sixth in the points table with 14 points from 14 games, securing seven wins.

DC made key changes to their squad at the IPL 2025 mega auction. The franchise parted ways with captain Rishabh Pant and brought in India’s first-choice ODI wicket-keeper KL Rahul along with veteran pacer Mitchell Starc.

They are yet to appoint their captain for the next season, but it is widely believed that either Axar Patel or KL Rahul will take up the role.

DC will begin their IPL 2025 campaign against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on March 24, Monday, at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. They will play their home matches across Visakhapatnam and Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Matthew Mott appointed as Delhi Capitals’ assistant coach

The Capitals on Tuesday, February 25 announced hiring Matthew Mott as their assistant coach through a social media post on X (formerly Twitter) ahead of the upcoming season. Mott previously won both the Men’s and Women’s T20 World Cups as a head coach.

“A serial winner who’s back for more Welcome to Dilli, Matthew Mott,” posted DC on X.

He served as the head coach of the Australian women’s team from 2015 to 2022, a period during which they won the ODI World Cup once and the T20 World Cup twice.

He then joined the England men’s team as their white-ball coach and guided them to their second T20 World Cup title in 2022. However, their poor performance in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India and ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 led Mott to step down halfway through his tenure.

Mott will now work alongside Hemang Badani (head coach), Munaf Patel (bowling coach), and Venugopal Rao (director of cricket) in the Delhi Capitals setup.
