IPL 2025 is scheduled to start on 14 March.

The 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is slated to be played from March 14 to May 25, 2025. The competition will consist of 74 games, as has been the case since 2022, when two new teams were added to the tournament.

The two-day mega auction in November 2024 added more excitement among the fans for the upcoming season as all teams rebuilt their squads; some had retained their core while some went for a major revamp.

Similar to the players, some franchises have stuck with their trusted coaching staffs from last year, whereas others have roped in new faces in their backroom staff. In this article, we will take a close look at the head coaches of all 10 teams in IPL 2025.

IPL 2025: Head coaches of all 10 teams

1. Chennai Super Kings – Stephen Fleming

Stephen Fleming is the most successful coach in the IPL history. Coaching Chennai Super Kings (CSK) since 2009, Fleming will continue with the Yellow Army in IPL 2025 as well.

Under Fleming, CSK have played nine finals and won the competition five times. The New Zealander also coached the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant to the IPL 2017 final.

2. Mumbai Indians – Mahela Jayawardene

Mahela Jayawardene will return as the head coach of Mumbai Indians (MI) for the IPL 2025 season. Jayawardene coached MI in one of their most successful periods during 2017-2022, when they won three titles.

The Sri Lankan then became the franchise’s global head of performance and was replaced by Mark Boucher. Under Boucher, MI reached the playoffs once in two seasons but finished at the bottom last season.

3. Kolkata Knight Riders – Chandrakant Pandit

Defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders will enter their fourth consecutive season with Chandrakant Pandit as their head coach.

Pandit brought success to KKR last season. After finishing seventh in two consecutive seasons in 2022 and 2023, KKR won their third title in IPL 2024.

The defending champions, though, will enter the IPL 2025 without their last season’s mentor Gautam Gambhir, who has now been replaced by Dwayne Bravo.

4. Sunrisers Hyderabad – Daniel Vettori

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) head coach Daniel Vettori, who is also Australia men’s bowling coach, will continue his partnership with team captain Pat Cummins at Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2025.

SRH were the runners-up under Vettori last season, capping off one of the most remarkable campaigns in the IPL history. Vettori has previously coached RCB.

5. Royal Challengers Bengaluru – Andy Flower

Having joined Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) before IPL 2024, Andy Flower will enter his second season as the coach of the franchise. RCB staged an impressive comeback last season, winning six consecutive games to qualify for the playoffs but failed to proceed till the final.

With a stronger squad for IPL 2025, Flower will want RCB to go a couple of steps further than they did last season. The franchise has made key inclusions of Phil Salt and Josh Hazlewood for IPL 2025.

6. Delhi Capitals – Hemang Badani

Former India batsman Hemang Badani replaced Ricky Ponting as the head coach of Delhi Capitals (DC) for IPL 2025.

Badani has coached several T20 teams previously including Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Jaffna Kings. The franchise decided to change the head coach after failing to reach the playoffs in the last three seasons.

7. Punjab Kings – Ricky Ponting

After parting ways with the Delhi Capitals after IPL 2024, Ricky Ponting was appointed as the new head coach of the Punjab Kings (PBKS) on a four-year contract.

Ponting joined DC in 2018 and guided the franchise to their first-ever IPL final in 2020. Punjab will hope for Ponting to bring the Australian competitiveness and better results to the franchise.

Ponting replaced Trevor Bayliss as Punjab’s coach. PBKS have not reached the playoffs since 2014.

8. Rajasthan Royals – Rahul Dravid

Known for nurturing young talents, Rahul Dravid has returned to Rajasthan Royals (RR) after nine years, this time as the head coach of the franchise, replacing Kumar Sangakkara.

Dravid led India to their second ICC Men’s T20 World Cup triumph in 2024 in West Indies. Dravid has previously served as a mentor of RR between 2013-2015.

9. Gujarat Titans – Ashish Nehra

Ashish Nehra will enter his fourth season as the coach of Gujarat Titans (GT) in the IPL 2025. Coaching the franchise since 2022, Nehra has led GT to two IPL finals, winning the title in IPL 2022.

However, the franchise finished eighth last season under new captain Shubman Gill. There were rumors of Nehra’s axing, but the franchise retained their head coach for at least one more season.

10. Lucknow Super Giants – Justin Langer

Former Australian coach Justin Langer will enter his second season as the coach of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2025.

After two playoff finishes under Andy Flower in IPL 2022 and 2023, Lucknow failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time in IPL 2024 under Langer.

Langer, as coach, led Australia to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 triumph in UAE.
