IPL 2025: How Can Lucknow Super Giants Qualify for the Playoffs?

Lucknow Super Giants have 10 points and three games left to play.
In the 61st game of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will play against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on May 19 and the match will be hosted at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
The Delhi Capitals vs. Gujarat Titans and the Rajasthan Royals vs. Punjab Kings doubleheader games on Sunday, May 18, were pivotal in deciding postseason eligibility. Both GT and PBKS secured their spots in the top four by winning their respective games. Additionally, RCB made it to the tournament’s next round.
With 10 points from 11 games played, LSG are presently ranked seventh in the points standings. They have Net Run Rate (NRR) of -0.469 and have won five games.
How Can Lucknow Super Giants Qualify for the Playoffs?
LSG have three games remaining. They will face Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 19, Gujarat Titans on May 22, and RCB on May 27. LSG need to win all three of their remaining games to reach 16 points and potentially move into the top four. If they lose even one game, they will end the group stage with 14 points and be eliminated.
Mumbai Indians (14 points, two games left), Delhi Capitals (13 points, two games left), and LSG (10 points, three games left) are the three teams vying for a spot in the playoffs. Furthermore, the outcomes of other teams will determine LSG’s fate.
MI will reach 16 points if they win one of their remaining games. In that scenario, Net Run Rate will decide if LSG qualify. Notably, the current NRRs for MI and LSG are +1.156 and -0.469, respectively. Therefore, MI’s single victory could lead to LSG’s elimination from the tournament, even if LSG wins all their remaining matches.
As a result, LSG will hope that MI lose both of their games against DC and PBKS, while also hoping PBKS defeat DC. LSG cannot be the only team finishing with 16 points and securing a postseason berth in any other scenario.
On the other hand, the Super Giants will be eliminated from the competition if they lose even one game.
