Young J&K middle-order batsman Abdul Samad has emerged as one of the most promising finishers in the Indian domestic circuit. What makes Samad unique is his ability to launch big hits against fast bowlers as well as spinners.

Samad made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) against Delhi Capitals (DC) in 2020 at Sheikh Zayed Stadium. Samad has scored a total of 1340 runs with a strike rate of 147 in his T20 career.

Lucknow Super Giants buys Abdul Samad for INR 4.2 crore

Abdul Samad will join Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for a salary of INR 4.2 crores for the IPL 2025 season. A total of three teams expressed interest in acquiring the young middle-order batter including Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and LSG.

In the final stages, LSG battled it out with PBKS to win the bid. Samad will add much-needed firepower to the PBKS middle order. Punjab, who have historically struggled in closing out run-chases, will hope that Samad can resolve their problems

Abdul has scored 577 runs in 50 games, across four IPL seasons after signing with SRH in 2020. Samad’s best individual season came in 2024 where he scored 182 runs with a strike rate of 170. Surprisingly, he is yet to score a half-century in the tournament.

Starting with a salary of INR 20 lakhs in 2020 and 2021, his value skyrocketed as SRH bought him for INR 4 crores in 2022.
