IPL 2025 mega auction: David Warner attracts no bids, remains unsold
David Warner scored only 168 runs in IPL 2024 for Delhi Capitals.
Hailed as one of the greatest all-format openers in the history of the game, David Warner retired from international cricket earlier this year, but continues to ply his trade in franchise leagues.
Few openers have had as much success as Warner in all three forms of the game. He is the third-highest run-scorer among openers in international cricket, bowing out with 18744 runs in his legendary career of 374 matches that spanned 15 years.
Warner’s tally of 49 international centuries is the highest among openers. He is a two-time ICC ODI World Cup winner, one-time ICC T20 World Cup winner, and one-time ICC World Test Championship (WTC) winner.
Warner is the leading run-scorer among overseas batsmen in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history.
The pocket dynamo is known for his aggressive approach and is adept at smashing both pacers and spinners.
David Warner unsold at IPL 2025 mega auction
Warner’s name was brought up twice during the IPL 2025 mega auction, but no franchise bid for the Australian and he went unsold. Warner, though, could comeback in the IPL if any franchise ropes him in as a replacement player.
David Warner previously in the IPL
Warner made his IPL debut for Delhi Capitals (then Daredevils) in 2009 and has featured only for two franchises in his IPL career so far.
He was with Delhi from 2009 to 2013, and in the IPL 2014 auction, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) roped him in and in 2015 made the Australian opener their skipper.
In IPL 2016, Warner led SRH to their maiden, and so far only, IPL title. He became one of the most consistent batsmen in the IPL history as he mounted over 400 runs from IPL 2013 to 2023 in all but one season he played in.
Amid controversial circumstances, he was released by SRH after IPL 2021 and was bought back by Delhi Capitals. He had two good seasons at DC with the bat and even led them in Rishabh Pant’s absence in IPL 2023.
Warner had a poor IPL 2024 season, as he managed only 168 runs while struggling with form and injury and has been let go by Delhi. He was bought by DC for INR 6.25 crores at 2022 mega auction.
