IPL 2025 mega auction: RR open their account, spend 12.5 crores to buy injury-prone Jofra Archer
Jofra Archer has taken 46 wickets in his IPL career.
English speedster Jofra Archer is one of the most feared fast bowlers in world cricket. Known for his raw pace and deadly yorkers, Archer’s career has been marked with frequent injuries.
He made his much-awaited comeback in September 2024 during the limited-overs series against Australia and West Indies.
With 154 wickets to his name in T20s, Archer is also a handy lower-order batsman capable of hitting mammoth sixes in the death overs.
RR buys Jofra Archer for INR 12.5 crore
Jofra Archer was sold to Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2025 mega auction for INR 12.5 crore. Archer’s last team, Mumbai Indians, and LSG were also interested in him but RR staved off other competition to purchase the England seamer.
Jofra Archer previously in the IPL
Archer made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut in 2018 playing for Rajasthan Royals (RR). He made an immediate impact in his first IPL season, claiming 15 wickets.
Archer’s ability to bowl in the powerplays as well as execute perfect yorkers in death overs made him a key weapon of RR’s arsenal.
Archer’s impressive IPL run continued in 2020 when he won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award. He finished the 2020 season with 20 wickets with an economy rate of just 6.3.
The pacer was signed by Mumbai Indians (MI) in 2022. Archer has picked up a total of 46 wickets in 35 games in the IPL.
Archer was bought by RR for INR 7.2 crore in 2018. He was picked by MI for a salary of INR 8 crore in 2022.
