IPL 2025 mega auction: Jos Buttler sold for 15.75 crores to Gujarat Titans
Jos Buttler scored 359 runs for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2024.
Jos Buttler is regarded as one of the deadliest openers in the history of Indian Premier League (IPL). Buttler’s first season in IPL came in 2016 for Mumbai Indians (MI). He made his debut against Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) on 9 April 2016 at the Wankhede Stadium.
Buttler’s unique attribute of finishing games despite batting in the top order makes him one of the most valuable players in the shortest format. Leading England in the limited overs, Jos can play a vital role in the leadership department.
Gujarat Titans buy Jos Buttler for 15.75 crores
2022 IPL winners Gujarat Titans have acquired Jos Buttler’s services for the next season. Gujarat looked keen on the player as they started the bidding war with Buttler’s former team Rajasthan Royals (RR).
A total of four teams expressed interest in the England white-ball captain. Gujarat won the bidding war pushing out Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the end. Buttler will pair with Shubman Gill to form one of the most dynamic opening duos in the tournament.
Jos Buttler previously in the IPL
Jos Buttler began his IPL career with Mumbai Indians in 2016. Buttler’s first season in the league was underwhelming with the batter managing only 255 runs at a batting average of 23.18.
Buttler’s breakthrough season came in 2018 when he moved to Rajasthan Royals. Marking his rise as one of the most explosive openers of the tournament, Buttler scored 548 runs at a batting average of 43.6.
Buttler took his game to a completely new level in 2022, winning the orange cap (highest run-scorer in the season) for his record tally of 863 runs. In a record breaking season, the wicket-keeper also matched Virat Kohli’s record of scoring most centuries (four) in a single IPL season.
Buttler’s IPL earnings have reflected his growth. He initially earned INR 3.8 crores playing for MI in 2016 and 2017 season. Buttler’s move to RR in 2018 saw his salary increased to INR 4.8 crores. He was finally retained by the franchise in 2022 for a handsome fee of INR 10 crores.
