IPL 2025 mega auction to have 2 sets of marquee players - Reports
The IPL 2025 mega auction will take place on November 24 and 25.
The BCCI has told the franchises about there being two sets of marquee players in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction.
The IPL 2025 mega auction will be hosted at the Abady Al Johar Arena, also known as Benchmark Arena, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on November 24 and 25. This is the second consecutive time that the auction is being held outside India; last year, Dubai hosted the event.
A total of 1,574 players have registered their names for the mega auction. The BCCI shared the list with the 10 franchises and with their inputs, the list will be pruned down for the mega auction.
Marquee stars distributed in two sets for IPL 2025 mega auction
According to a report in Cricbuzz, the BCCI informed the franchises that the star players have been grouped into two sets of marquee players. Each set will contain 8-9 players.
In the IPL 2022 mega auction, there was only one set of marquee players. However, in the 2018 and 2014 mega auction, there were two sets.
Some of the big names of world cricket who will be in these two marquee player sets are Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh, R Ashwin, Mitchell Starc and Jos Buttler.
All players in the marquee sets have a base price of INR 2 crore.
In last year’s auction, Starc became the most expensive player in IPL history as Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bought him for INR 24.74 crore. He delivered match-winning performances in Qualifier 1 and the final to help KKR lift their third title. Yet, Starc has been released by KKR.
