IPL 2025 mega auction: LSG refuse for RTM as PBKS buy Marcus Stoinis for 11 crores

Marcus Stoinis scored 388 runs for Lucknow Super Giants ahead in IPL 2024.

Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has established himself as one of the finest all-rounders in the shortest format of the game.

Stoinis made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut in 2016, playing for Punjab Kings (PBKS). He is known for his excellent finishing abilities in the middle order and medium pace bowling.

Recently, the Australian all-rounder has worked on his bowling in the death overs. Stoinis’ versatility to bat anywhere in the order makes him a valuable asset in T20.

Marcus Stoinis was sold to Punjab Kings for INR 11 crore in the mega auction. He was with Punjab in IPL 2016, 2017, and 2018 seasons as well.

Stoinis was first bought by Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2015 season, though he didn’t play a game that season. His real journey began in 2016 when he was bought by Punjab Kings in the auction. Stoinis impressed the management in his first season and was acquired for the 2017 season using a Right to Match card.

Following a dip in form in the next two seasons, he was traded to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Stoinis’ standout season came in 2020 where he scored 352 runs for DC, playing a key role in their journey to the final.

Stoinis was signed as a pre-auction pick by Lucknow Super Giants in 2022 where he became a crucial part of the team’s middle order partnering with Nicholas Pooran. Stoinis’ best season with the bat came in 2023 where he amassed 408 runs at a blistering strike rate of 150.

Stoinis started his IPL career with INR 25 lakh at Delhi Capitals in 2015. He then moved to Punjab Kings for INR 55 lakh (2016–2018) and RCB for INR 6.2 crore. He returned to DC for INR 4.8 crore in 2020. Stoinis was the part of LSG from 2022 to 2024 for INR 9.2 crore.
