IPL 2025 mega auction: KKR rope in Rahmanullah Gurbaz at his base price of 2 crores

Rahmanullah Gurbaz played three matches for KKR in IPL 2024.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz is one of the key players of the Afghanistan cricket team. The wicket-keeper opener was instrumental in Afghanistan’s success at the World Cup 2023 and the T20 World Cup 2024.
He was, in fact, the leading run-scorer of the men’s T20 World Cup 2024, where Afghanistan reached the semi-finals, their first ICC knockout finish in any format.
Gurbaz is a destructive force at the top of the order. He has played in 46 ODIs and 63 T20Is so far. He averages 39 in ODIs and has struck eight ODI tons. In T20Is, he has a strike rate of 135 and has hit one century and 11 half-centuries in the shortest international format.
Gurbaz has a vast experience of playing franchise cricket around the world. He’s featured in several leagues, including the CPL, LPL, IT20, PSL, BPL, and APL.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz sold to Kolkata Knight Riders for INR 2 crore
Rahmanullah Gurbaz will be heading back to his former Indian Premier League (IPL) team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for IPL 2025. Gurbaz, who has been in excellent form for Afghanistan in International cricket, will don the purple jersey next season for a salary of INR 2 crores.
Gurbaz will add value to KKR’s batting lineup with his excellent stroke-making capability in the powerplay overs. Having released Phil Salt, Gurbaz’s addition will add depth to KKR’s wicket-keeping reserve.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz previously in the IPL
Gurbaz has been part of the IPL for the last three seasons. In the IPL 2022, Gujarat Titans (GT) roped him in as a replacement player but then traded him to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ahead of IPL 2023.
In IPL 2023, he played 11 matches, scoring 227 runs with two fifties to his name. He didn’t get much chances in IPL 2024 as KKR had roped in Phil Salt and paired him as an opener with Sunil Narine. In IPL 2024, Gurbaz featured in only three games, batted twice, and scored 62 runs.
