Ravi Ashwin managed to pick up only nine wickets in IPL 2024.

Ravi Ashwin is statistically India’s greatest off-spinner. With over 760 international wickets, only Anil Kumble is ahead of Ashwin on the wickets tally among Indians.

The 38-year-old off-spinner from Tamil Nadu made his India debut in 2010 and within three years replaced Harbhajan Singh as the first-choice off-spinner of the team.

Part of India’s title-winning campaigns in the World Cup 2011 and Champions Trophy 2013, Ashwin was shown the door from the white-ball teams after 2017 but his legend kept growing in test cricket.

Ashwin is a giant in world cricket and one of India’s greatest match-winners in test cricket, especially in Asian conditions.

He is only the second Indian bowler to take over 500 test wickets, and he’s done it at a terrific bowling average of 23.95. His 37 test five-fors are the joint second-most in test cricket.

Ravi Ashwin sold to CSK for INR 9.75 crore

Chennai Super Kings roped in R Ashwin in the mega auction for INR 9.75 crore. He was with CSK from 2008 to 2015 before the franchise was banned for two years.

Ashwin has been part of the IPL since 2008. He made his debut in 2009 for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and until IPL 2024 he has featured for five different franchises.

He was with CSK from 2008 to 2015 and played crucial roles in the franchise’s triumphs in the 2010 and 2011 seasons. After CSK got banned for two seasons, he was roped in by Rising Pune Supergiants for two years before being bought by Punjab Kings in the IPL 2018 mega auction.

PBKS made him their skipper but he couldn’t take them to playoffs in two seasons and was released. He then spent two seasons at Delhi Capitals and then three seasons at Rajasthan Royals.

The off-spinner was with RR for INR 5 crore per season. While he did well in the 2022 and 2023 editions, he had an under-par IPL 2024 season, where he managed only nine wickets in 15 games.

In all, Ashwin has picked up 180 wickets in 212 IPL matches and has maintained a tidy economy of 7.12.
