IPL 2025 mega auction: Rishabh Pant breaks Iyer's record, gets sold for 27 crores to LSG
Rishabh Pant was released by Delhi Capitals ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.
Indian wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant is one of the most exciting cricketers in the world. The 27-year-old has been a key figure in the Indian test team since his debut in 2018 and has produced several memorable innings in the whites.
He also commands a lot of respect and value as a white-ball cricketer. Among his most remarkable achievements in white-ball cricket are a maiden ODI century at Old Trafford in Manchester and his contributions to India’s title-winning ICC T20 World Cup 2024 campaign.
Pant, as very well known, has been arguably India’s best test batsman over the last four years.
Rishabh Pant sold to x for INR x crore
Rishabh Pant was sold to Lucknow Super Giants for INR 27 crore and became the most expensive player in IPL history, breaking Shreyas Iyer’s INR 26.75 crore record set earlier in the auction.
LSG and RCB, both looking for a new captain, started bidding for Pant from his base price and went upto 11 crore when SRH came in action. LSG then tussled with SRH, who tapped out at INR 20.5 crore.
Interestingly, DC, who had released Pant, said they want to use their RTM option, following which, LSG raised their bid directly to INR 27 crore and DC didn’t match it. Thus, Pant went to LSG for INR 27 crore.
Rishabh Pant previously in the IPL
Pant is one of the most destructive batsmen in the IPL history. He had been with Delhi Capitals (DC) from his IPL debut in 2016 to 2024, even leading them in multiple seasons. The left-hander has amassed 3284 runs in the IPL at an average of 35 and strike rate of 148 and has hammered one century and 18 fifties in the competition.
Pant was given DC’s captaincy in IPL 2021 when Shreyas Iyer missed the tournament due to an injury. The Pant-led Delhi topped the league stage but failed to reach the final after losing both Qualifier 1 and Qualifer 2.
In IPL 2022, DC finished in the fifth position in the points table under Pant. He then missed IPL 2023 due to the injuries suffered in a car accident in December 2022. He returned to lead the side in IPL 2024 and even finished as the top-scorer for this team but the franchise once again failed to reach the playoffs.
Pant was shockingly released by DC and that ended one of the iconic player-franchise associations in the IPL.
Pant had started his IPL journey with Delhi in 2016 with a salary of INR 1.9 crore, which was bumped up to INR 8 crore in 2018 and to INR 16 crore in 2021.
He has been involved in the fourth-most dismissals (95) in the IPL as a wicket-keeper.
