IPL 2025 mega auction: Sam Curran takes massive pay-cut, reunites with CSK
Sam Curran scored 270 runs for Punjab Kings in IPL 2024.
Sam Curran is rated highly across all formats due to his excellent all-round ability. Known for his versatility, Sam can bat anywhere in the batting lineup. He has also opened the batting on a few occasions for Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
With the ball, he is best known for his swing with the new ball. Sam made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut in 2019 playing for Punjab Kings (PBKS). He has scored over 3660 runs and taken over 240 wickets in his T20 career of 250+ games.
Chennai Super Kings buys Sam Curran for INR 2.4 crores
IPL 2025 will see a sweet Sam Curran and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) reunion. Sam Curran has come as an economical buy for the five-time champions. Joining for the salary of INR 2.4 crores, Sam will add much-needed versatility to CSK’s lineup.
Curran will partner Ravindra Jadeja and Rachin Ravindra as an all-rounder for the franchise. Punjab Kings (PBKS) gave a long thought before deciding against using their Right to Match (RTM) card for the youngster.
Sam Curran previously in the IPL
Sam Curran was picked by Punjab Kings (PBKS) in 2019 after his Man of the Series performance against India in 2018. Curran’s first season in the IPL was tough, with his economy rate suffering on the Indian pitches. In the batting department, he was deployed as a pinch hitter.
Being released by PBKS, he was picked by CSK in IPL 2020. Curran was one of the bright spots in CSK’s under-performing side. He continued his good form in during the 2021 season.
Curran has made a total of 883 runs and picked up 58 wickets across 59 matches in the IPL. His was also the most expensive player in the 2023 IPL auction with a salary of INR 18.5 crores.
Sam Curran was bought by PBKS for INR 7.2 crores in 2019. He later joined CSK for INR 5.5 crores in 2021. In 2023, he was purchased by Punjab Kings for INR 18.5 crores.
