IPL 2025 mega auction: Shardul Thakur attracts no bids, remains unsold

Shardul Thakur picked up only five wickets in IPL 2024 for CSK.
Hailing from Palghar, Maharashtra, Shardul Thakur made his ODI debut for India in 2017 and debuted in the other two formats in 2018.
Thakur has never managed to cement his place in the Indian team but has always been seen as a utility cricketer with multi-dimensional facets of his play. Apart from his medium-pace bowling, which is effective in the middle-overs in white-ball cricket and on overseas tours in test cricket, Shardul offers batting depth to his side.
He’s played in 11 test matches so far and made important contributions to India’s famous wins at the Gabba and The Oval in 2021.
Thakur has so far featured in 72 white-ball internationals for India, though he remained inconsistent and was pushed out of the side.
Shardul Thakur unsold at IPL 2025 mega auction
Shardul’s name was brought up twice during the IPL 2025 mega auction, but no franchise bid for the Indian seamer and he went unsold. Thakur, though, could comeback in the IPL if any franchise ropes him in as a replacement player
Shardul Thakur previously in the IPL
Thakur has been part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) since 2014 when he was bought by Punjab Kings (then Kings XI Punjab). However, across three seasons with PBKS, he played only one match.
He was bought by Rising Pune Supergiant at the IPL 2017 auction and his career started to gain momentum there. After impressing MS Dhoni and Stephen Fleming at Pune, they roped him in Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2018 where his career really shot up.
Thakur remained at CSK until 2021, helping them win two titles in four seasons. In the next two seasons, he played for Delhi and Kolkata before returning to CSK for the IPL 2024 season for INR 4 crores.
However, he had a forgettable IPL 2024 tournament, where he bagged only five wickets in nine matches and was then released.
Overall, Thakur has picked up 94 wickets in 95 IPL matches at an economy of 9.22.
