IPL 2025 mega auction: CSK rope in local boy Vijay Shankar for 1.2 crores

Vijay Shankar scored 83 runs for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2024.
Vijay Shankar is known for his solid technique against spinners in the Indian domestic circuit. The middle-order batter has established himself as one of the most reliable players for Tamil Nadu.
Shankar made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2014. Vijay Shankar was also a part of the Indian squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.
Chennai Super Kings buys Vijay Shankar for 1.2 crores
Entering the IPL 2025 mega auction as an ‘Uncapped’ player, Vijay Shankar was bought by Chennai Super Kings for INR 1.2 crores.
Coming in with a base price of INR 30 lakhs, Vijay Shankar gathered interest from CSK and his former team Gujarat Titans. CSK won the bidding war between the 2023 finalists, acquiring all-rounder’s services for INR 1.2 crores.
Vijay Shankar’s excellent technique against spinners will be highly useful for CSK on the square-turning wicket of Chepauk.
Vijay Shankar previously in the IPL
Vijay Shankar began his IPL journey with Chennai Super Kings in 2013, playing a single match before moving to Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2017, where he registered his highest score, 64* against Gujarat Lions.
In 2018, Shankar was bought by Delhi Daredevils and later traded back to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for the 2019 season. He finally joined Gujarat Titans (GT) in the 2022 season playing a key role in their title-winning campaign.
He has scored a total of 1115 runs in his IPL career. His best individual season came in 2023 where he accumulated 301 runs with a strike rate of 160.
Shankar joined CSK for INR 10 lakhs in 2013 before moving to SRH in 2016 for a fee of INR 35 lakhs. Shankar represented GT from 2022 to 2024 earning INR 1.4 crores.
