IPL 2025 mega auction: Yuzvendra Chahal bought by Punjab Kings for 18 crores
Yuzvendra Chahal is the leading wicket-taker in the history of the IPL.
Senior India leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is one of the best in the world with his skillset. The wily leggie from Haryana has played both white-ball formats for India and was once a first-choice member of the side from 2017 to 2019.
He made his ODI and T20I debuts for India in 2016 and formed a deadly spin-bowling combo with chinaman Kuldeep Yadav, and the pair ruled white-ball cricket for a couple of years until they had to be broken as their form slipped and India needed to add batting depth.
Chahal is India’s leading T20I wicket-taker with 96 scalps in 80 matches and his best bowling figures are 6/25. He has snared 121 wickets in 72 ODIs and played a crucial role in India’s bilateral series win in South Africa in 2018.
Yuzvendra Chahal sold to Punjab Kings for INR 18 crores
Punjab Kings (PBKS) bought Yuzvendra Chahal for ₹ 18 crore marking their third big signing after Arshdeep Singh and Shreyas Iyer on the first day of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Several teams including Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Gujarat Titans (GT), Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Lucknow Super Kings (LSG), entered the bidding war, before PBKS acquired the services of the leg spinner for the next season.
The big boundaries of Mullanpur Stadium will suit Chahal, who loves bowling against power-hitters.
Yuzvendra Chahal previously in the IPL
With 205 wickets, Chahal is the leading wicket-taker in the IPL and the only one with over 200 scalps. He’s achieved this feat in the 160 games he’s played for three franchises since his debut in 2013.
Chahal played one game for Mumbai Indians in 2013 before being bought by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and moved up the ladder at RCB. He bowed out as RCB’s highest wicket-taker, snaring 139 wickets from 2014 to 2021 before being surprisingly released before the IPL 2022 mega auction, where Rajasthan Royals got a hold on him for INR 6.5 crores.
Chahal struck gold instantly for RR as he finished the IPL 2022 season with the Purple Cap with a 27-wicket season. He followed it up with 21 and 18 wickets in the next two seasons but was not retained by RR.
