IPL 2025 has been suspended with 16 more games left to be played.

Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has witnessed a surprising scenario as the tournament has been suspended for a week. IPL 2025 has witnessed a total of 58 games so far. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday, May 9 announced suspension of the tournament with immediate effect for a week due to security reasons.

Notably, the 59th match of IPL 2025 between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) was stopped midway at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) stadium in Dharamsala on Thursday, May 8. The encounter was halted in the 11th over of PBKS’ batting in the first innings due to technical issues as the floodlights stopped working.

Later, the players, match officials, umpires, and crowd were evacuated from the stadium due to security reasons. The BCCI then also organized a special train to bring the players back safely from Dharamsala city, which has been affected due to border tensions between India and Pakistan in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor.

Michael Vaughan suggests BCCI to conduct IPL 2025 in England on X

On Friday (May 9) morning, BCCI released an official statement to inform that they have suspended the tournament for a week due to security reasons. The BCCI also added that they will take a decision in the upcoming days about the rescheduling of the remaining games.

Now, former England skipper Michael Vaughan has suggested BCCI to complete IPL 2025 in England. Vaughan took to X (formerly Twitter) and posted a tweet about the same.

I wonder if it’s possible to finish the IPL in the UK .. We have all the venues and the Indian players can then stay on for the Test series .. Just a thought?, he tweeted. Have a look at his tweet below.

Notably, Indian Cricket Team is scheduled to tour England for a five-match test series from June. The India’s tour of England 2025 will witness a total of five test matches from June 20 to August 4. The series will be part of ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27.

Meanwhile, IPL 2025 has 16 games left after the suspension. This is not the first time that an IPL tournament has been suspended midway. During IPL 2021, the tournament was suspended midway with immediate effect as Covid-19 pandemic was rising in India and also saw a few cases in camps of IPL teams. Later, the second leg of the league took place in UAE after a gap of three months.
