LSG defeated DC by 50 runs in their first match of IPL 2025 in Vishakapatnam.

On Monday, March 24, Delhi Capitals (DC) defeated the Lucknow Super Giant (LSG) by just one wicket in their opening match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.

This game had everything. Drama, end-to-end action and mistakes, you name it. DC won the toss and invited LSG to bat first. The visitors were off to a good start before Aiden Makram walked away in the fifth over. Nicolas Pooran came in at three and started the fireworks along with Mitchell Marsh and notched up an 87-run partnership.

Pooran scored 75, while Marsh scored 72. Rishabh Pant came up next and had a forgetful debut for LSG as he couldn’t open his account. Following Pant’s dismissal, LSG’s middle-order collapsed with David Miller being the sole player to get decent runs on the board. Miller guided LSG to 209-8.

The Capitals started their run chase in a poor fashion as Jake Fraser McGurk and Abhishek Porel were dismissed in quick succession by Shardul Thakur. Samir Rizvi also gave away his wicket a few moments later as the scorecard read 7-3. Faf du Plessis and Axar Patel formed a partnership, but were shown the exit door in the fifth and sixth over respectively.

DC batting line-up almost gave up and it seemed as if they were heading towards a defeat until Ashutosh Sharma showed up. Sharma simply turned the game on its hand single-handedly and took DC home with a heroic performance. He scored 66 runs, including five sixes and fours each.
