DC defeated LSG by eight wickets in the 40th match of IPL 2025.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) locked horns with Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 40 match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Tuesday, April 22. The match took place at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. DC had a low target of 160 in the encounter and won the match by eight wickets with a stunning half-century by KL Rahul.

Earlier, DC skipper Axar Patel won the toss and opted to bowl first. LSG openers Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh gave an outstanding start to the batting. They piled up an opening stand of 87 runs before the 10th over. While Markram slammed 52 runs, Marsh added 45.

However, the home team faced a mini batting collapse in the middle; losing key batters Nicholas Pooran, Abdul Samad, and David Miller cheaply. Towards the end, Ayush Badoni scored quickfire 36 runs to power the hosts LSG to 159/6. DC pacer Mukesh Kumar scalped a fabulous four-wicket haul. Mitchell Starc and Dushmantha Chameera got one wicket each.

In the chase, ex-LSG captain KL Rahul smashed a brilliant half-century to guide DC to a win.

After the LSG vs DC, match No. 40 of IPL 2025, LSG take the fifth spot in updated points table of IPL 2025. They have 10 points and Net Run Rate (NRR) of -0.054. On the other hand, DC now grab the second position in the updated points table. They have 12 points and NRR of +0.657.

Gujarat Titans (GT) take the top spot with 12 points. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) hold the third and fourth positions with 10 points each. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) occupy the 10th position in the table.

IPL 2025: Most runs (Orange Cap)

GT pacer Sai Sudharsan captures the peak position in the Orange Cap leaderboard with 417 runs. LSG batter Nicholas Pooran, who got out cheaply for nine runs in the encounter, takes the second spot with 377 runs. His teammate Mitchell Marsh slammed 44 runs and has re-entered the list of top five run-scorers in IPL 2025.

He takes the fourth spot and has displaced Virat Kohli from the list. MI batter Suryakumar Yadav captures the fifth spot with 333 runs. There are no DC batters in the list of top five highest run-scorers this season. KL Rahul, who scored a marvellous half-century in the game, now is positioned seventh with 323 runs.

IPL 2025: Most wickets (Purple Cap)

GT pacer Prasidh Krishan has 16 wickets in his kitty and enjoys the top spot in the Purple Cap leaderboard. DC spinner Kuldeep Yadav is the only DC bowler in the list with 12 wickets. He takes the second spot. Noor Ahmad, R Sai Kishore, and Josh Hazlewood take the next three spots with 12 wickets each. Notably, LSG pacer Shardul Thakur also has an equal 12 wickets, but is positioned lower with a poorer economy rate.
