Virat Kohli has scored eight fifties in IPL 2025.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) locked horns in the match No. 70 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Tuesday, May 27. RCB outplayed LSG by six wickets in the thrilling encounter.
RCB skipper Jitesh Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first in the match. LSG batted first and scored a mammoth total of 227/3. Opener Mitchell Marsh slammed a quickfire 67 runs at the start. Later, skipper Rishabh Pant (118*) followed up with an impeccable unbeaten century.
However, RCB arrived with an equally wonderful batting. Jitesh Sharma smacked an unbeaten 85 runs off 33 deliveries to bring the team home within 19 overs. At the start, opener Virat Kohli (54) scored a half-century to set the tone for the chase.
Virat Kohli registered multiple records in the LSG vs RCB clash:
Virat Kohli slammed his eighth half-century in IPL 2025 during the LSG vs RCB clash. With another brilliant knock this season, he shattered multiple records in the tournament.
To begin with, Kohli now has the most number of half-centuries in tournament history. The RCB stalwart has slammed 63 fifties in the tournament. He has leapfrogged former Australia player David Warner, who has 62 IPL fifties in his kitty.
Kohli has also completed 600-plus runs in IPL 2025. Hence, he has become the first player to score more than 600 runs in five seasons of IPL. He touched the mark earlier in the 2013, 2016, 2023, and 2024 editions. He is also one of three players to go past the 600-run mark in three consecutive seasons.
Moreover, Kohli has become the first ever player to score 9000 runs for a single franchise in T20s. He has reached the mark for RCB. This includes both his IPL and now-defunct Champions League performances. He has been part of the side since the first season of the IPL 2008.
Notably, Kohli is the leading run-scorer for his team in IPL 2025. The right-handed batsman has slammed 602 runs in 13 games at an average of 60.20 and a strike rate of 147+. Overall, he is the fifth-highest run-scorer.
Meanwhile, RCB finished in the second spot in the points table after the thrilling win against LSG. They ended with 19 points across 14 matches. They won nine matches, lost four, and one match ended in no result.
They will now lock horns with Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Qualifier 1 match. The encounter will take place on May 29 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh.
