The final phase of the IPL 2025 resumed on May 17.

The 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) saw a one week suspension because of cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan. The tournament was suspended on May 9 and then got resumed on May 17 with a game between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. With such brief break, most of the overseas stars went home.

Some of the players decided not to return for remainder of the season, while some returned till the end of league stage. Hence, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) gave teams the option to recruit temporary replacements for such players, but on a condition that they can’t be retained before the next season.

Hence, a number of franchises have made some temporary signings for remaining games. Here we will talk about all the replacements made by teams.

IPL 2025: List of all replacement players before tournament resumption

1. Jake Fraser-McGurk – Mustafizur Rahman

The young Australian opener Jake Fraser-McGurk opted out of remainder of the IPL 2025 due to personal reasons. Hence, Delhi Capitals became the first franchise to sign a temporary replacement.

They signed Bangladesh’s quick Mustafizur Rahman for the rest of the season. The pacer joined DC for a sum of INR 6 crores. Mustafizur has played 57 IPL games and has taken 61 wickets.

2. Jos Buttler – Kusal Mendis

Another big name to miss out some part of remainder of the IPL 2025 is Jos Buttler. He has been in prime touch for Gujarat Titans this season and is one of their key performers. But because of national duty, Buttler won’t be available for GT for the playoffs.

England are scheduled to play an ODI home series against West Indies. Hence, GT have signed Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis as a temporary replacement for INR 75 lakhs.

3. Mayank Yadav – William O’Rourke

The Indian fast bowler Mayank Yadav sustained an injury once again. He missed the first half of the IPL 2025 for Lucknow Super Giants and then played a few matches. But he has been ruled out due to a back injury now. Hence, LSG has signed Kiwi speedster William O’Rourke as his replacement.

LSG have struggled in their last few games, and it has been mainly their bowling unit. The Kiwi pacer has been in good form, and his inclusion will strengthen the bowling attack. The franchise has signed him for a price of INR 3 crores.

4. Lockie Ferguson – Kyle Jamieson

Lockie Ferguson is another pacer who got ruled out of the IPL 2025 due to injury. He was ruled out after sustaining a hamstring injury in mid April. However, Punjab Kings didn’t announce any replacement till the tournament was suspended.

They roped in tall Kiwi pacer Kyle Jamieson, who has also played for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL, as his replacement. PBKS signed him for INR 2 crores.

5. Rovman Powell – Shivam Shukla

Kolkata Knight Riders’ overseas star Rovman Powell was ruled out of remainder of the tournament with health issues, where he needed a surgical intervention in his tonsils. Hence, as a result, the defending champions roped in Madhya Pradesh mystery spinner Shivam Shukla as his replacement. Shukla joined the side for his base price of INR 30 lakhs.

6. Lungi Ngidi – Blessing Muzarabani

Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Lungi Ngidi also pulled out of remainder of the season as he opted to prepare for the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 final, which South Africa will play against Australia at the Lord’s, London in June.

As a result, RCB roped in Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani for INR 75 lakhs.
