Rahul Dravid injured himself during a cricket match in Bengaluru.

The much-awaited 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will begin on March 22, with the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) taking on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the opening game at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens’s stadium.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) have been termed by many as a team to watch out for this season. They had a strong season last year, finishing third in the league stage with 17 points and eight wins from 14 games. However, their campaign ended in Qualifier 2, where they were knocked out by Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The franchise retained six players before the IPL 2025 mega auction, namely Sanju Samson, Riyan Parag, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel, Shimron Hetmyer, and Sandeep Sharma.

The inaugural season IPL winners also changed their head coach before the season, appointing Rahul Dravid ahead of the IPL 2025 auction after he led Team India to the T20 World Cup 2024 title.

Earlier, he spent five seasons with the franchise from 2011 to 2015 as the team’s captain.

However, there has been a setback for the franchise ahead of the start of IPL 2025. Their head coach Dravid has picked up an injury. The franchise took it to the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to share that Dravid picked up an injury while playing cricket in Bangalore and will join the team on Wednesday in Jaipur.

The former India batsman can be seen smiling with a cast on his left leg in the picture posted by the franchise on the micro-blogging site.

The post read, “Head Coach Rahul Dravid, who picked up an injury while playing Cricket in Bangalore, is recovering well and will join us today in Jaipur.

Known for nurturing young talent, Dravid will play a key role in the franchise, which includes several youngsters, including 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi. RR will kick off their campaign on March 23 against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in a day game.
