Shubman Gill was back in the hut after scoring just 13 runs
Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper Shubman Gill failed to make an impact with the bat in his first innings after being appointed as the test captain of the Indian Cricket Team. The opening batter bagged a failure in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 game against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Gujarat Titans are hosting Chennai Super Kings in their last league game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is hosting the game between the two teams on Sunday (25th May).
After Chennai Super Kings, who won the toss and batted first, posted a massive total of 230 runs on the board, Gujarat Titans were off to a poor start with the bat. Skipper Shubman Gill was the first wicket to fall as he tried to up the ante but couldn’t.
Gill, in the second ball of the third over, charged down the track and hit and hit Anshul Kamboj for a massive six. However, the reply from the fast bowler was magnificent as he removed the Gujarat Titans skipper on the very next ball.
Kamboj bowled a length ball on the rise, to which Shubman Gill gave the charge. The ball held its line, and Gill couldn’t prevent it from finding the outside edge. It flew towards the slip region, where Urvil Patel was stationed and the young batter showed clean hands to snaffle that.
What caught the attention of many was the reaction of Anshul Kamboj after removing Shubman Gill. The pacer was pumped up as he gave a fiery send-off to the Indian test skipper.

Shubman Gill, who is the second leading run-getter for Gujarat Titans in the ongoing IPL 2025, was back in the hut after scoring 13 runs off 9 balls. The right-hander batted with a strike rate of over 144 and slammed one boundary and one six during his stay at the crease.
Notably, Shubman Gill was announced as the test captain of the Indian Cricket Team ahead of the series against England. The batter will be jumping into the shoes of Rohit Sharma, who retired from the format earlier this month.
His first assignment will be the five-match test series against England. The series, which will be part of the ICC World Test Championship, will begin on 20th July at the Headingly Cricket Ground in Leeds.
