The IPL 2025 will end 16 days before the ICC WTC final.
In an extraordinary and unusual move, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have confirmed the “windows” – essentially the date of the start and final – of the next three Indian Premier League (IPL) seasons.
While the franchises are currently preparing for the IPL 2025 mega auction, which will take place on November 24 and 25 in Saudi Arabia, the board has informed them about the dates of not only the next season but of the next three seasons.
It is reported that the BCCI has received confirmation about the player availability from the other major cricketing boards and after that.
When will the IPL 2025 start?
According to reports, the IPL 2025 season is scheduled to get underway on March 14 with the final slated for May 25.
A report in Cricbuzz stated that the BCCI also confirmed the dates of IPL 2026 and IPL 2027 seasons to the franchises. The IPL 2026 season will be played from March 15 to May 31, and the IPL 2027 season will start on March 14 and end on May 30.
The IPL 2025 season will be of 74 matches, which, however, is 10 fewer than what the board had listed when the media rights for the 2023-27 cycle were sold in 2022.
While these are the “windows” the board has told the franchises about, it is unlikely to shift the dates.
The BCCI announcing their windows for the next three IPL seasons will allow the other cricket boards to plan their bilateral series. With the BCCI introducing strict rules and conditions on overseas players’ participation in the IPL, it has been made imperative for the cricket boards to avoid clashing their bilateral series with the IPL.
