Royal Challengers Bengaluru won IPL 2025 beating Punjab Kings by six runs in the final.

The 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) concluded on Tuesday, June 3. After waiting and trying for 18 years, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finally laid their hands on the trophy. They defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) in a nail-biting final by six runs at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi International Cricket Stadium to lift their maiden IPL trophy.

This season saw some of the best individual performances and breathtaking moments. From Vaibhav Suryavanshi to Ayush Mhatre, the world saw how young uncapped players set the tournament on fire.

Teams like Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kolkata Knight Riders disappointed and couldn’t perform to their standards. But there were some individuals who had a horrible season by their own standards. All those big names who failed to impress will feature on this list, where we will talk about the worst XI of IPL 2025.

IPL 2025: Worst XI of the season

1. Rachin Ravindra

Coming into IPL 2025 after scoring the most runs in ICC Champions Trophy 2025, the expectations were very high from Rachin Ravindra. But, he couldn’t replicate that form in IPL 2025.

He was tried for the first eight games by CSK, where he scored 191 runs at 27.28 and a strike rate of 128.18. His highest of 65 not out came in the very first game against Mumbai Indians, which was followed by a string of low scores.

2. Quinton de Kock

Quinton de Kock was signed for INR 3.6 crores by Kolkata Knight Riders after they released Phil Salt. But this move didn’t work well for the 2024 season winners. De Kock never looked in control and was not able to play up to his potential.

He played eight innings and managed to score only 152 runs, where he scored an unbeaten 97 against Rajasthan Royals. In the remaining seven games, he scored only 55 runs.

3. Venkatesh Iyer

After heroics in the playoffs last season, Venkatesh Iyer was acquired by KKR for a whopping price of INR 23.75 crores at the mega auction. That move was criticized by many as KKR released their trophy-winning captain, Shreyas Iyer.

But re-acquiring Venkatesh proved to be a horrible call by the three-time champions. He played 11 games and scored only 142 runs at an average of 20.28. His every run cost KKR almost 16.75 lakhs.

4. Rishabh Pant (c & wk)

Rishabh Pant broke all records when Lucknow Super Giants bought him for a price of INR 27 crores, making him the costliest player ever at an IPL auction.

He only scored 269 runs in 13 innings, which includes an unbeaten 118 in the last group game against RCB. In the other 12 innings, he scored 151 runs. His every run cost more than 10 lakhs to LSG.

5. Glenn Maxwell

Since 2024, Glenn Maxwell has played 17 games and has scored 100 runs. He was released by RCB ahead of the IPL 2025 auction, and Punjab Kings bought him for INR 4.2 crores. But, he disappointed once again.

Maxwell managed to score only 48 runs at an average of eight and took four wickets in seven games played in IPL 2025. He was a total failure for PBKS this season.

6. Rinku Singh

Rinku Singh was another Indian T20I star who disappointed his fans. Being a match-winning finisher, Rinku had a below-average season with KKR, which also affected the team’s performance.

Rinku scored 206 runs at an average of 29.42, with highest score of 38 not out. His poor form is the reason why he features in this list.

7. Rashid Khan

According to many, Rashid Khan is often judged as the best T20 cricketer ever. But he was nowhere near his best in IPL 2025. Coming off an injury could be a reason as well, but he won’t be happy with the way he performed for GT in IPL 2025.

In 15 matches, he managed to take only nine wickets at an economy rate of 9.34 and scored 40 runs with the bat only. Since his IPL debut in 2017, this is the worst season for Rashid with the ball.

8. Ravichandran Ashwin

Former Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was bought for INR 9.75 crore by CSK at the mega auction. It was a homecoming for him with his first IPL team. But, it didn’t go well and the off-spinner couldn’t make an impact.

Ashwin was also dropped from some games. He played nine games and took seven wickets at an economy rate of 9.12, and with the bat, he scored only 33 runs.

9. Mohammed Shami

Veteran Indian pacer Mohammed Shami also didn’t enjoy his return from injury. He was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 10 crores at the IPL 2025 mega auction. But, he didn’t look at his best at all.

Shami played nine matches and took only six wickets at a high economy rate of 11.23 and an average of 56.16. His poor form also hurt his team as he wasn’t able to take wickets with the new or old balls.

10. Ravi Bishnoi

Ravi Bishnoi was one of the players retained by LSG before the mega auction and he was retained for a price of INR 11 crores. But it turned out to be a nightmare of a season for the premier LSG leg-spinner. He was even overshadowed by Digvesh Rathi on the field.

Bishnoi had the worst IPL season of his career so far. He ended up with nine wickets in 11 games at a poor economy rate of 10.83 and never looked in control.

11. Mohit Sharma

Mohit Sharma has had many ups and downs in his IPL career, and IPL 2025 would be one that he would like to forget. After taking 40 wickets in the last two seasons for GT, Mohit was bought by Delhi Capitals for INR 2.2 crores.

He was bought for his death-bowling skills, but he was exposed badly as the opposition batters got the better of him. He played eight games and managed to take only two wickets at an economy rate of 10.28 and an average of 128.50.

Worst XI of the IPL 2025: Rachin Ravindra, Quinton De Kock, Venkatesh Iyer, Rishabh Pant (c & wk), Glenn Maxwell, Rinku Singh, Rashid Khan, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammed Shami, Ravi Bishnoi, Mohit Sharma
