IPL 2026: All players bought by CSK in auction

CSK bought 9 players in the IPL 2026 auction.

The Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) auction was held on December 16 in Abu Dhabi. Five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) entered the auction with a purse of 43.4 crores, the second-highest budget among all teams, and nine available slots to fill.

Super Kings retained most of their core squad but also released a few players they felt no longer fit their plans. One of their major releases was Matheesha Pathirana, who was sold to the Kolkata Knight Riders for 18 crore.

Despite retaining the majority of their squad, CSK still needed to fill several slots and consequently made some expensive purchases at the auction. Their primary focus was on acquiring uncapped players, aligning with the franchise’s ongoing transition phase.

On that note, let’s have a look at the players Chennai bought in the mini auction.

Chennai Super Kings began their auction proceedings by bidding for Cameron Green, but were left disappointed as KKR secured him for 25.2 crores.

Following this setback, CSK reassessed their strategy and shifted their focus primarily towards uncapped players, clearly signalling a long-term vision as the franchise continues its transition phase.

The management has built a young team that can serve the team for years to come. They made headlines by signing Prashant Veer for a whopping 14.2 crores, making him the most expensive uncapped player in IPL auction history.

Just minutes later, Super Kings struck again by acquiring right-handed wicketkeeper-batter Kartik Sharma for the same amount, making him the joint most expensive uncapped player in IPL history. These back-to-back big-money moves underlined CSK’s commitment to investing in emerging Indian talent.

Chennai then strengthened their overseas contingent by signing West Indies left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein at his base price of 2 crores, followed by Australian all-rounder Matthew Short for 1.5 crores. They also added in-form Sarfaraz Khan for 75 lakh, who has been in devastating form in the domestic circuit.

Further bolstering their batting depth, CSK grab uncapped middle-order batter Aman Khan, who has previously represented KKR and DC, for 40 lakh. With a significant purse remaining, CSK secured another smart deal by signing New Zealand pacer Matt Henry at his base price of 2 crores.

They also engaged in a bidding war for leg-spinner Rahul Chahar and bought him for INR 5.2 crore as part of their broader auction strategy to strengthen their spin department, especially after senior spinners Ravi Ashwin announced his retirement and Ravindra Jadeja was traded to the Rajasthan Royals.

CSK then rounded off their auction by acquiring New Zealand medium pacer Zak Foulkes for ₹75 lakh. The young pacer adds depth to their fast-bowling resources and provides a reliable backup option for the upcoming season.
