IPL 2026 Auction: KKR splurge 25.20 crore to buy Cameron Green

Cameron Green had a base price of INR 2 crore in the IPL 2026 auction.

Australian star all-rounder Cameron Green was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction. Green had a base price of INR 2 crore, but was picked for a hefty amount of INR 25.20 crore in the mini-auction.

The Australian all-rounder did not play in the last season due to a back surgery. He was part of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in IPL 2024 and was released by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Later, he did not participate in the auction and opted to withdraw from the tournament.

The Australian all-rounder made his IPL debut in the 2023 season and has played 29 games so far, smacking 707 runs at an average of 41.59, hitting one century and two half-centuries. He is currently busy with The Ashes 2025-26.

Cameron Green became the highest paid overseas player in the history of the IPL, going past Mitchell Starc’s tally of INR 24.75 crore in IPL 2024 by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The all-rounder also was the most expensive player in the IPL 2023 auction, where he was picked by Mumbai Indians (MI) for INR 17.5 crore.

Green being picked by KKR means that, they have filled in the void left by Andre Russell, who retired just ahead of the IPL 2026 auction after being released by the franchise. The premier all-rounder is expected to bat in the top order and also is expected to chip in with few overs, which fills in a dual role for the three-time champions.

Green has been one of the best all-rounders going in world cricket. In such a short span of time, he has developed himself into the mainstay of the Australian lineup in all three formats, which says a lot about his ability as a player.

Cameron Green will get only INR 18 crore from KKR

Although Green was sold for INR 25.2 crore, he will get only 18 crore as rest of the money will go to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in their player welfare. This is because the governing body recently introduced the salary cap player, which states:

“Any overseas player’s auction fee at a small auction will be lower than the highest retention price [of INR 18 crore] and the highest auction price at the big auction. In case the highest auction price at the big auction is INR 20 crore, then INR 18 crore will be the cap. If the highest auction price at the big auction is INR 16 crore, then the cap will be INR 16 crore.”
