IPL 2026 Auction: Sarfaraz Khan finds last-minute deal, MS Dhoni's CSK buys Mumbai batter for 75 Lac

Sarfaraz Khan has played for Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) secured Sarfaraz Khan at his base price of Rs 75 lakhs during the accelerated round of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday after he went unsold in the opening phase. The five-time champions moved quickly to grab the Mumbai batter who last played IPL cricket for Delhi Capitals (DC) back in 2023.
Sarfaraz earned his IPL return through a blazing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2025 campaign where he hammered 329 runs across seven innings at a strike rate of 203.08 with three fifties and his first T20 century. He smashed 64 off just 25 balls last Sunday when Mumbai chased down 235 against Haryana in the highest successful chase in SMAT history.
The 27-year-old burst onto the national radar at age 12 when he scored 439 in his maiden Harris Shield match and broke a record that Sachin Tendulkar had set in 1988.
His father Naushad Khan groomed him from those early days as both a former Mumbai cricketer and respected coach who understood what it took to succeed at the highest levels.
Sarfaraz Khan’s record in Indian Premier League (IPL)

Sarfaraz made his first-class debut in 2014 and built a reputation through dominant performances in red-ball cricket and the Ranji Trophy before breaking into the Indian test team. His IPL career includes stints with Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) alongside Delhi Capitals (DC) across 50 matches where he scored 585 runs at an average of 22.50 and a strike rate of 130.58.
CSK added a middle-order option who has proven he can accelerate when needed and brings years of domestic cricket experience to their batting lineup for the upcoming season.
