Australia pacer Spencer Johnson is expected to play in Indian Premier League 2026. He was part of Gujarat Titans (GT) in his debut season in IPL 2024, where he earned an expensive contract of INR 10 crore in the auction.
In IPL 2025, he featured for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and picked one wickets in four games. However, since he fared poorly, he was released by KKR ahead of the IPL 2026 mini-auction. He had a base price of INR 1.50 crore but could not find any buyers.
Later, he was picked by Quetta Gladiators in Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 as a direct signing. However, he opted out of the tournament due to personal reasons. He was replaced by West Indies’ speedster Alzarri Joseph.

According to reports, Johnson is expected to join Chennai Super Kings (CSK) squad in IPL 2026. Recently, CSK pacer Nathan Ellis was ruled out of the tournament due to a severe hamstring injury. Ellis aggravated an old injury while playing in Australia’s One-Day Cup earlier this year and will need about three months of rehabilitation.
The Ruturaj Gaikwad & Co. are actively looking for a replacement for Ellis. The rumours of Johnson joining CSK became a talk of the town after the Aussie pacer recently reacted to his own Instagram story with a yellow heart emoji.

Meanwhile, Johnson has played nine games in IPL and accounts for five wickets at an average of 56.80 and an economy of 10.39. For Australia, he has played five ODIs and eight T20Is so far, clinching four and 14 wickets respectively.
