IPL 2026: Who is Prashant Veer? UP's all-rounder who bagged 14.20 Cr in mini-auction

Prashant Veer performed well for UP in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) sprung a massive surprise in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) auction on Tuesday in Abu Dhabi. The five-time winners forked out INR 14.20 Crore for young Prashant Veer for the coming season. The 20-year-old was priced at 30 Lakhs before his price shot up to 14.20 Crore.
In the end, it was the men in yellow who came out on top to acquire the services of Prashant Veer. This made Prashant Veer the costliest uncapped player in the history of the league. Veer made his domestic debut for UP in the T20 format at the age of 17 against Tamil Nadu.
The left-arm spinner bowled three overs in his debut game and went wicketless as UP lost the game by nine runs. CSK were looking for an all-rounder to replace Ravindra Jadeja, who was traded to the Rajasthan Royals ahead of the auctions.
Prashant Veer is expected to fill huge boots
Former IPL champions Chennai Super Kings had decided to trade Ravindra Jadeja for Sanju Samson in one of the most unexpected moves. Prashant had emerged as one of the most viable replacements for Jadeja thanks to his latest display for UP in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
The 20-year-old had played seven games this season and picked nine wickets with the ball with an economy rate of 6.7 runs per over. Veer also scored 112 runs with the bat with a best of 40 not out that came against Bihar in his side’s final game of the campaign.
Chennai Super Kings prepare for the future
After releasing some of their top players, the Super Kings are now looking at young talent for the future. So far, Prashant has played nine T20 games for UP, scoring 112 runs and picking up 12 wickets with an economy rate of 6.4 runs per over, with a best of 3/7.
Apart from his exploits for his state side, Prashant Veer had also done well in the UPT20 tournament for Noida Super Kings. Eyes will be fixed on the youngster as he looks to make his mark at the Chepauk stadium in the new season.
