IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal hints at hosting a 'Mini IPL' soon

In the various sports leagues, the Indian Premier League has earned the reputation of the most lucrative league in the world of sports with maximum business involvement. IPL is now the second most profitable league in the World of Sports after the National Football League of the USA. After its invention IPL has expanded big times in all 16 seasons. Now, the IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal has hinted that the BCCI will be looking to host ‘Mini IPL’ along with the full season. Starting with 8 teams, IPL is now a 10 members tournament. The talks are also on increasing the number of days as well as the number of games in the league.

'Looking to host a short tournament'

In an Interview, IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal expressed that they are looking to expand the league more in the upcoming days. He also said that with the current ICC Window, they can not host two IPLs in a year but they can somehow manage to host a mini IPL. IPL Chairman in the interview said, “Given the format we have, It is not possible to have another edition in the same year… but there are windows of opportunity available for some other format or short tournament we are definitely looking at that”.

In the first season of this league, a total of 59 games were played. Since then, the IPL has evolved and earned big money and big businesses involvement. Not only Cricket and Business, but IPL also has involvement from Bollywood. This combined with the Indian Market makes it one of the most profitable leagues in the world. In the IPL 2023, a total of 74 games will be played. The number of venues has also increased. IPL through media rights has got a huge amount of almost 49 thousand Crore rupees for a 4 year cycle starting from 2023 to 2027.
