Earlier, rumours were spread that MS Dhoni might retire from the IPL after CSK vs DC clash on Saturday.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach Stephen Fleming has answered to rumours surrounding MS Dhoni‘s retirement after the 17th match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Saturday, April 6. Dhoni’s retirement rumours makes noise every season on the social media and IPL 2025 is no different.

Dhoni has been part of CSK since their debut season in IPL 2008, excluding two seasons in 2016 and 2017, when the franchise was suspended and he played for now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants. Although he left the leadership of the Super Kings last season, he continues to keep the stumps and smack sixes with the bat for the Men in Yellow.

However, CSK have struggled to come up with an impressive start this season, losing three games out of four. On Saturday, the Ruturaj Gaikwad & Co. failed to chase down a target of 184 runs against Delhi Capitals (DC) to face their third straight defeat in IPL 2025.

I have no idea: Stephen Fleming on MS Dhoni’s retirement

During the post-match press conference of CSK vs DC clash at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, reporters asked CSK coach Stephen Fleming about the rumours of MS Dhoni’s retirement after this season. However, the former New Zealand skipper noted he has no idea about the same as Dhoni is still going strong.

“No, that’s not my role to put an end to it. I have no idea. I’m just enjoying working with him still. He’s still going strong. I don’t even ask these days. You are the ones who ask,” Fleming said.

Meanwhile, Dhoni has struggled to score down the order for CSK in IPL 2025 in the initial games. The right-handed batsman has added 76 runs across his four innings at a strike rate of 138, smacking four sixes in total.

Against DC, the wicket-keeper batter managed to score 30 off 25 deliveries as CSK remained 25 runs short off the target in the end. With just one win across four games, the IPL 2023 champions are currently placed eighth in the points table with two points. CSK will face Punjab Kings in their next match on Tuesday, April 18, at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh.
