Urvil Patel holds the record for hitting joint-fastest century in T20 cricket by an Indian batter.
The 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has not been a great tournament for the five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK). They have never finished at bottom of the points table in any IPL season, but this season they have been consistently at bottom of the table. Not just performance on the field; even the injuries have hurt CSK a lot.
CSK have suffered another injury, and this time young wicket-keeper batter Vansh Bedi has been ruled out of the remainder of the season. As reported, he has sustained a ligament tear to his left ankle, which has snatched a golden chance from him to play for one of the most successful franchises in the IPL.
However, the five-time champions have made a solid move. The Chennai-based franchise has added one of the most exciting prospects in the Indian domestic circuit. The wicket-keeper batter from Gujarat, Urvil Patel, has joined CSK for the remainder of IPL 2025.
Vansh Bedi suffers a ligament tear and CSK signed Urvil Patel for IPL 2025
It has been a season of many forgettable moments for CSK, and they are still suffering a lot. Vansh Bedi, who was initially part of CSK’s playing XI in their last game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, suffered a last minute injury. He was on the verge of making his IPL debut but couldn’t do it and was replaced by Deepak Hooda in the playing XI.
Now, the wicket-keeper batter has been ruled out of remainder of the tournament and the franchise has brought in Urvil Patel as his replacement. The 26-year-old represents Gujarat at domestic level. He caught the attention of the world when he slammed a 28-ball century in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25 against Tripura and registered the joint-fastest century by an Indian batter in the format. CSK roped Urvil Patel for INR 30 lakhs.
He ended up scoring a total of 315 runs in just six innings in that tournament at an incredible strike rate of 230. His unbelievable striking ability and keeping skills make him a hot prospect on the Indian domestic circuit.
Overall, he has played 47 T20 games and scored 1162 runs. He also has two hundreds and four half-centuries to his name. He was part of Gujarat Titans in IPL 2023, but couldn’t make his debut. With CSK already being out of the playoffs race, there are chances that he might make his debut for the team. CSK still have three more games to play, and they will next face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Wednesday at the Eden Gardens.
