Delhi Capitals roped in Faf du Plessis at IPL 2025 mega auction for his base price.

Delhi Capitals (DC) are all set to start fresh in the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). IPL 2025 will kick off on March 22, and all ten teams will compete in 74 games, including the final on May 25.

DC released their captain Rishabh Pant ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction and then appointed star all-rounder Axar Patel as their new captain for the upcoming season. And now, they have also announced a player who will assist Axar in IPL 2025.

Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) skipper Faf du Plessis will now be the vice-captain of DC in the IPL. The franchise bought the former RCB captain for his base price of INR 2 crores, which was one of the best buys of the season by the franchise.

Faf du Plessis was part of RCB for the last three seasons. At the IPL 2025 mega auction, DC signed the South African star for his base price of INR 2 crores. Though there were some murmurs that the franchise had him in their minds to appoint as captain, but they went with Axar Patel.

Du Plessis comes with loads of leadership experience in international cricket as well as the IPL. He led RCB for playoffs in two of the three seasons he captained. That will help DC and Axar as well, both on and off the field. The franchise shared the news on their official social media handles.

That confirms that Du Plessis is likely to play all matches for DC this season. If we look at his captaincy record, he led RCB in 42 games, where he maintained a 50% record winning 21 and losing 21 games.

He has so far played 145 matches in the IPL and scored 4571 runs at an average of 35.99 and a strike rate of 136.36, with 37 half-centuries. DC will play their first game of the season on March 24 against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam.
